Product Details

  • Pattern:  Vintage Planter, Cache Pot, Ceramic Blue Swan, Iridescent, Vintage Collectibles, Home Patio Decor, Mid Century Pottery, (Discontinued)
  • Made in USA
  • Vintage: 1950's - 1960's
  • Details:  This is such a lovely planter and in absolutely wonderful vintage condition. This is the large swan most likely by American Bisque Pottery. We've seen it listed as Royal Copley, however we could find no evidence they ever made this style swan and the mould markings do not fit the Copley identifiers.  It is 8 inches tall, it looks as graceful and regal. It has a wonderful pastel blue, or baby blue, with an iridescent finish.  There are lots of gold accents on the beak, the wings, neck and feet, lots of detail, and finished with a high gloss glaze.  There is no drainage hole so perfect used as a cachepot or vase.  There are no makers marks but after some research we are pretty sure this is by American Bisque Pottery due to the mold wedges and other unique characteristics.  American Bisque pieces are hard to find, many may sell them but rarely identify them as American Bisque.  Great gift for a pottery collector or better yet, a great find for an American Bisque collector!  Would look lovely as an accent / decor piece in the home.
  • Material:  Ceramic
  • Dimensions: 8.0 inches Tall, 9.25 inches Long and  5.5 inches Wide.
  • Condition:  Vintage - Used.  Very Good Vintage Condition.  There are no scratches, chips or crazing.  There is minor wear on the gold on: beak, back of legs and one area on the side, (all photographed for you), this is consistent and acceptable with age/use/wear.  Please review all pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  Please remember these are VINTAGE and ANTIQUE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear  and imperfections.

American Bisque Pottery opened for business in 1919, in Williamstown West Virginia,  at the end of WWI.  In 1922, B.E. Allen purchased the business and it remained in the family until closing.  At first the company made Kewpie doll heads, the Allen family expanded into planters, vases, bowls, serving dishes, ashtrays, and lamps but they are best known for their cookie jars.  They faced some disasters in their time, in 1937 the plant was flooded, the family reopened, only to be struck by fire and completely destroyed in 1945.   Market decline forced them to sell 1982.  Bipin Mizra purchased the plant and re-named it American China Company making airline chinaware. However in 1983 that company closed as well.
